Season's Greetings from the Recovery Corps

Season’s Greetings!

As we near the end of 2009, we can look back on the past year and take comfort in knowing that much progress has been made to rebuild Louisiana from the devastating hurricanes of 2005 and 2008. Here at the Louisiana Family Recovery Corps, we were honored to lead multiple initiatives that helped thousands of Louisiana families with their recovery goals.

But as we gather with family and friends to celebrate the joys of the holiday season, let us not forget our neighbors still struggling to rebuild their lives. There are many among us who call a FEMA trailer home and many who struggle just to make ends meet. From a lack of affordable housing to crumbling schools, limited access to quality healthcare to a lack of opportunities, Louisiana faces many challenges as we begin a new year. But I can assure you that brighter days are on the horizon for those who believe and those who act as if it has happened.

Soon the Louisiana Family Recovery Corps will launch a new initiative that will uplift our citizens and work proactively with all concerned to help transform Louisiana into a state with opportunities for all and partialities for none. This opportunity movement transcends political, geographical and racial lines. After all, we are in essence one Louisiana.

Collective vision and action will be required to remove old barriers and create new opportunities for those who are willing to do their part. This means that individuals and governmental systems must be reciprocally accountable to the other. Remember, we are a government of the people, for the people, and by the people.

On behalf of the dedicated staff of the Louisiana Family Recovery Corps, we would like to extend to you our best wishes for a joyous holiday season and prosperous New Year.

Sincerely,

Dr. Monteic A. Sizer
