Sizer to address Louisiana's Black Mayors

BATON ROUGE, La. -- On Friday, November 27, 2009, Dr. Monteic A. Sizer, President and CEO of the Louisiana Family Recovery Corps, will address the Louisiana Chapter of the National Conference of Black Mayors at their annual Board Meeting in New Orleans, La.
Dr. Sizer will be speaking about long-term recovery solutions and the role that issues like education, economic development, civic engagement, citizen responsibility and government accountability play in moving Louisiana forward.
Additionally, Dr. Sizer will be discussing the important role that opportunity plays in Louisiana’s continued recovery, as well as the barriers that limit opportunity and ways that government and citizens can work together to overcome barriers that deny or restrict opportunities for all Louisianans.
“From infrastructure to education, crime to social services, mayors have the ability to be deeply involved on a personal level in the lives of those they serve,” said Dr. Sizer. “This type of citizen engagement with government will be critical as Louisiana attempts to move past recovery and focus on making our state one in which opportunities for success are attainable by all who wish to take advantage of them. I am excited about the opportunity to discuss the role that these critical issues play in the long-term recovery of our state and the revival of Louisiana.”
The National Conference of Black Mayor’s mission is to enhance the executive management capacity of its member mayors. NCBM articulates public policy positions and serves as a clearinghouse on information pertinent to municipal development and financing.
Sizer’s speech to the mayors will precede a visit to Washington, D.C., where he will testify before Senator Mary Landrieu’s Senate Ad Hoc Subcommittee on Disaster Recovery on Wednesday, December 2, 2009. Sizer will also address a joint meeting of the Louisiana House and Senate Municipal Committees on Tuesday, December 8, 2009.
