While it is essential that local, state, and federal governments work with the non-profit sector and the private sector to establish long-termhuman recovery plans in the wake of disasters, it is also essential that individuals, families, and businesses make preparations for evacuation and survival should a catastrophic event strike.

In doing so, there are many elements that should be focused on during the design, implementation, and execution of any preparedness plan. The State of Louisiana through its Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness has developed a website that will help indviduals, families, and business thrink through the essential elements of a preparedness plan. The website is www.getagameplan.org.

During the preparation and evacuation phases, families and individuals will also be able to call Louisiana 2-1-1, a project of the United Way, which can provide critical information about school and road openings, business openings, availabilities across the state, and other dire information.
