Director of Communications

The Louisiana Family Recovery Corps, a leading statewide non-profit agency, seeks a dynamic Director of Communications. The Director of Communications is a management-level director position that leads the Recovery Corps' Communications Department. The Director of Communications works closely with the President and CEO to develop the company's image and messaging and then implements strategies and techniques to further the mission of the agency via public outreach and print communications, state and national communications campaigns and electronic communications. The Director of Communications is also responsible for the outreach associated with the agency's key strategic initiatives and ensures the message of the agency reaches all of its core constituent groups.

An ideal candidate should be a strategic thinker who can manage multiple tasks simultaneously and efficiently while overseeing the work of the Communications Department staff. In addition to having strong written and verbal communications skills, an ideal candidate should also have the ability to conceptualize, design and implement communications campaigns and strategies, engage in issue advocacy, effectively use media outlets (television, newspapers, video, websites, blogs, social media and more) to advance the Recovery Corps' goals and initiatives, and introduce new and creative approaches to marketing and communications content designed to expand the Recovery Corps' name recognition and reach to key audiences (policymakers, government officials, advocates, funders and others).

Candidates should have a minimum of five years of previous successful experience in communications and public relations management, preferably in the governmental, social science or political realm. Candidates should also demonstrate an ability to work proactively in a team setting and produce quality work product under tight time constraints while working on several projects simultaneously. A Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communications, Public Relations, Political Science or Journalism is required. An advanced degree is preferred. Candidates should have experience working with a diversity of communication mediums. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
